Location & Surroundings

Gordevio is part of the municipality of Avegno in the Maggia Valley (Canton Ticino) and lies at 312 m above sea level – surrounded by stunning natural scenery.

The Maggia Valley

The Maggia Valley is shaped by its namesake river and offers a unique Ticino landscape. Walking trails, swimming spots, and hiking paths invite you to relax and explore. From Locarno, the road leads through Avegno, Maggia, and Cevio up to Mogno (1,180 m), home to the famous San Giovanni Battista Church, designed by renowned architect Mario Botta.

River Maggia

Originating from the Basodino Glacier (3,300 m), the Maggia flows into Lake Maggiore between Locarno and Ascona. The valley is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts: cycling tours, canyoning, and swimming in turquoise waters are just some of the highlights. A stop in the charming village of Maggia, with its traditional stone houses (Rustici), is a must.

River Briee

Right next to the holiday apartments runs the small Briee river. Depending on the season, its water level varies. A walk upstream reveals wild nature and a waterfall near the old stone bridge – a popular swimming spot in summer.

Locarno & Ascona The lively towns on Lake Maggiore offer Mediterranean flair, culture, and fine dining. More info: https://www.ascona-locarno.com
